BIO
Eric Alterman is a Tropi-Cascadia troubadour crafting heartfelt, poetic songs that feel timeless yet contemporary. His evocative folk music traces journeys through nature, love, heartbreak, dreams, and existence. Rooted in guitar and cello, his harmony and arranging nod to classic American folk while drawing color from Brazilian Tropicália.
Onstage, he is joined by a rotating ensemble (drums, bass, percussion, trumpet, and violin) that blends folk and jazz improvisation with Brazilian-inspired grooves, performing sets that range from intimate storytelling to full-band peaks. His debut album, Traveling Days and the Universe Parade, is set for release in summer 2026. Recent performance highlights include a featured show at Portland’s The Artichoke and a performance at the Oregon Country Fair (2025).
A recent arrival in the folk scene, Alterman brings a life steeped in professional music. As a cellist, he has performed with symphony orchestras for 15 years, from Rio de Janeiro to Portland, and is a longtime member of Oregon’s Delgani String Quartet. Raised in the musical melting pot of New York City, his wide-ranging path remains a constant thread running through his songwriting.
